Born in Nassau, Bahamas in 1941, he was the first Bahamian to receive a distinction in “A” Level Art (Cambridge G.C.E.) In Nassau, he studied at Don Russell’s Academy of Fine Arts and was an apprentice at the Chelsea Pottery (Nassau Branch). Art schooling in England was at the Beckenham School of Art and at Ravensbourne College of Art and Design (4 year course, National Diploma in Design). As a graduating student, he first exhibited at Oxford College, England. Since then he has shown in many group exhibitions and this exhibition represents his 16th solo show to date. Returning home in the mid 60’s, the artist, over the years has established several Art Galleries to highlight the works of emerging Bahamian artists. (Bahamian Pottery Gallery, Loft Art Gallery, Temple Gallery, Matinee Gallery and presently Marlborough Antiques).
The artists paintings have appeared on UNICEF First Day Cover series and limited editions posters (1984) and twice as Christmas stamps for the Bahamas postal service. A one man show was presented in New Orleans (Black Music Association of American Conference, 1982). He exhibited in the group Carifesta exhibitions in Cuba (National Gallery of Cuba) and Barbados 1981. Fourteen of his paintings were exhibited at the National Gallery of Jamaica for its first Caribbean Invitational (1988). His painting “Junkanoo Ribbons” is part of the permanent collection of the National Gallery of Jamaica.
